Jean-François Debongnie

“I am fixated on the universal importance that flowers have had for humans throughout history. My aim is to capture the essential nature of the flower – its beauty and its fragility.”

Debongnie brings flowers to life. As a self-taught artist, he has claimed a language for contemporary floral presentations with hints of an Eastern aesthetic gained from his 20 year of living in Asia.

He uses Chinese ink to add a dramatic fluidity and depth to his predominantly monochromatic work. His semi-abstract work animates flowers against the backdrop of landscapes hidden in muted palettes of grey, beige or taupe. These atmospheric pieces can create an exciting, relaxed or ethereal ambiance.

Debongnie paintings adorn residential and corporates spaces across Europe, Asia and North America. You could find his work in the collection of Architects Vista, Raffles Hotel, Singapore Airlines, to name a few. His work has also been featured in magazines such as Vogue Living, Elle Decor. Home Concept and Home Décor.
