SABINE PUSCHMANN
I combine "views from above" and "views from within". I like to work with confusion, the viewer must take some time to "read" my paintings. They cannot be grasped immediately.
Sabine Puschmann creates paintings that provide a powerful sense of colour and line while embracing a narrative. Emboldened by an extensive formal education and passion for autobiographical storytelling, Puschmann weaves together a tapestry of themes, stories, and emotion in her work.
Her journey as an artist started at the Academy of Art and Music in Bremen where she studied Fine Art. Following her Masters, she worked under the mentorship of esteemed artist Jürgen Waller, founder of the Society of Contemporary Art and the Weserburg Museum for Contemporary Art in Bremen. After Waller’s mentorship, Puschmann went on to lecture independently. Later, her growing passion for teaching inspired her to open her own arts academy, a hub of creative exploration and practice.
Combining technical expertise with her artistic passion, Puschmann has created her own bold style. She seamlessly blends graphic and abstract elements into compelling compositions. Influenced by stories of female artists and poetry, she has confidently developed a singular artistic language. Frequently, she explores themes from ancient mythology, and concepts like the passage of time. She skillfully combines words and pictures into her pieces that allude to a literary element. Recently, Puschmann has been exploring sculpture using wood as her medium to create figures that undoubtedly complement her paintings. Her style has evolved into multi-layered, boldly colourful works that create a mesmerizing visual dialogue that invites viewers to investigate the complexities of her work.
Puschmann’s home and studio is secluded by a lake in northern Germany where practicing artists come to her regular workshops to glean mastery from her renowned tutelage. The idyllic setting of her studio provides a quiet place to work and be inspired. She continues to exhibit frequently, immersing herself in the contemporary art scene.
