“By structuring my work on different planes, I create a perception of depth and a feeling of space in which to project oneself. The viewer is invited to navigate through transitional zones alternating between violence and softness. I invite the eye to travel through atmospheric scenes, beyond the physical matter in a suspended temporality, seeking to engage feelings and intellect.”
Sylvie Adams attempts to capture the magic of what she sees, feels and experiences as she creates artwork with sensitivity and spontaneity. She loves to travel and the discoveries and the new experiences of travel inspire and inform what she paints.
Her delicate abstracts have an ethereal aura. At the same time as the viewer might wish to hold on to an image, time, place, they seem to drift away leaving you lost with feelings, thoughts, emotions. The abundance of space, the drips of paint seem to dare us to hold on to something intangible. He contemporary abstracts will mesmerize and soothe you.
Working primarily with acrylics, India ink, spray paint, Sylvie focuses on the composition of the materials she uses and the interaction between them. Through experimentation she manipulates the weight and fluidity of the materials to great effect including her signature dripping that helps to enhance the fragility of her work.
Sylvie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Masters in Architecture. After working as a practicing designer for almost 15 years, she returned to her passion to become a full-time artist.
