Shastri Maharaj currently lives and works as an artist in Trinidad. He is currently retired after an influential career teaching teachers visual arts. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1985 at the University of Manitoba, School of Art in Canada where he majored in painting. Shastri’s work has been exhibited extensively in Trinidad and the Caribbean. Internationally, he has exhibited on numerous occasions in Germany, Canada and the United States. His work forms part of many corporate and public collections including the University of the West Indies. The National Museum and Art Gallery of Trinidad and Tobago has presented a retrospective exhibit of his work and includes a selection of his work in its permanent collection.
