Mary Karavos completed her fine art studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto, Ontario, and further honed her skills at OCAD’s outpost in Florence, Italy. Inspired by the ethereal light and colour of Florence, Mary began pursuing a new artistic expression creating mosaic-like works of art using only hand-torn pieces of the finest Japanese, Korean, Nepalese and Thai papers. For over 30 years she has been evolving her practice, discovering and intuiting paper paintings on canvas. The use of torn paper to create colourful, textured abstract and realistic pieces has distinguished Mary as a unique artist. She consistently creates and exhibits her work locally and internationally to an audience that is riveted by her technique and compositions. Her work often receives Best in Show awards. Most recently, Mary was honoured with a Bronze Medal from The Arts-Science- Lettres Academy of Paris and Prix du Jury from the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts International Exhibition, Carousel du Louvre, Paris, France.
