“Painting for me is adventure! Every scene, every work of art has its own personality and unique flavour. Every painting, every study is puzzle to be worked out and solved, at least to the very best of my capabilities.”
For Peter Colbert, creating art is an extension of self, each piece that he creates invigorates and inspires him, and pushes him towards new ideas and challenges. In his own words he is a colourist, using his art as a medium to express his spontaneity, freedom, and creative originality, as well as a means for his subconscious mind to take control and express itself on the canvas. Colbert’s art parallels his creative versatility with his transitions between watercolours, oil, and acrylics, between the figurative, landscapes and abstracts.
Peter Colbert has been drawing and painting throughout his life. He has won various artistic awards starting from his early childhood work, to his later work in the graphic design, illustration and fine art fields. Colbert’s work has also been utilized commercially, being featured in promotional products for big brands, as well as his earlier commercial work with marker rendered advertisements and marketing campaigns. Colbert is a graduate of Humber College and won a scholarship to Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada, where he concentrated his studies in fine art and illustration. After mastering the craft of draftsmanship and spending years working as an art director and illustrator, he transitioned to being a full-time artist in 2006, focusing on his artistic growth and putting a personal stamp on his art. Currently working out of his home studio in Ottawa, Canada, Colbert’s work is known internationally with collectors worldwide.
