ZOYA TAYLOR Solo Show: An Undeniable Pride
After over 10 years of working with Zoya Taylor, we are thrilled to mount a solo exhibition in a city that has loved her work over the years. In this exhibition titled "An Undeniable Pride" Taylor continues to explore the complexities of identity in over 20 painting.
Her paintings draw heavily on her unique background and experiences growing up between Canada, Jamaica and Germany and later settling in Norway. She depicts a cast of characters that inhabit the spaces between cultures, languages and disciplines to reflect on perceived otherness.
Her influences range from the classic works of Henri Rousseau to contemporary artists like Marlene Dumas. Through her evocative and emotionally charged paintings, Taylor aims to communicate the diverse facets of humanity. Her wide eyed, undeniably human characters carry with them a sense of pride, transforming the concept of the ‘misfit’ into something both poignant and empowering.
Taylor has exhibited and received numerous awards internationally. Her work is enjoyed in private and public collections around the world. Images of her work have been used as illustrations in academic journals, in high school textbooks in Norway and in connection with various theatre, books, film and music productions in Norway, Canada and the USA.
