On the walls at Spence Gallery….

Let’s Talk About LOVE!

On view until Feb 28, 2023

Artists often take to the canvas to start conversations about the weighty subject of Love.

This month, while love is especially on everyone’s mind, we’re presenting a collection of works by various gallery artists that use very different styles to explore the theme of Love.

Featuring Works by
Cherie Harte, James Paterson, Mario Angel, Peter Barelkowski and Sandra Di Leo.

Cherie Harte admits that her paintings stem from very personal matters such as overcoming trauma and adversity which have in turn led her to a place of loving compassion. Her paintings, driven by that compassion, are a vehicle for expressing our human desire to love and be loved.

James Paterson sees his work as vehicles for communicating romantic and poetic messages between himself and the audience and in turn between those who take the pieces home and others in their world. While the individual may hesitate to articulate these emotional words of love James’ sculptures will.

In this series, Mario Angel paints from a dream-like perspective where love is elemental - one always hopes for it, struggles to express it, seeks to make connections of the heart and yet it seems almost elusive and unattainable.

Peter Barelkowski’s work wrestles with the complexities of love. In several series of his paintings, he presents the idea of familial and romantic love as an emotion that involves a spectrum of sometimes conflicted feelings from caring to indifference to hate, the perceived opposite of love.

As an abstract painter, Sandra Di Leo uses colours to evoke feeling of tenderness, joy, comfort, harmony and other elements that emanate from a love story.
